Bandits Attack Borno School, Kill Teacher and Abduct Students Sitting NECO Examination

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked a secondary school in Borno State, killing a teacher and abducting an unspecified number of students who were sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination.

The attack occurred on Monday morning at Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, located in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.

Attack Disrupts Ongoing NECO Examination

According to local residents, the attackers stormed the community while students were writing their examination, causing panic across the school and surrounding neighbourhood.

Witnesses said the armed men fired several gunshots before taking away a number of students and teachers.

During the assault, one teacher was fatally shot, while another sustained injuries and was taken for medical treatment.

Residents Raise Security Concerns

Residents alleged that military personnel stationed in the area had left for a patrol operation shortly before the attack took place.

According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen arrived in large numbers, taking advantage of the temporary absence of security forces before carrying out the raid.

The claims have not been independently verified by security authorities.

Police Confirm Incident

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the attack and acknowledged that several students remain unaccounted for.

Police spokesperson Nahum Daso said security agencies have begun efforts to determine the number of victims and track down those responsible for the attack.

Authorities have not yet released the exact number of students abducted.

The latest incident has renewed concerns about the safety of students and teachers in conflict-affected communities across northeastern Nigeria.
