Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has alleged that his once-close relationship with Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy fell apart after false rumours claimed he had an affair with Burna Boy’s girlfriend.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Shatta Wale said he welcomed Burna Boy warmly during one of his visits to Ghana, providing him with accommodation, vehicles and other support throughout his stay.
According to the singer, their friendship later deteriorated after some former members of his team allegedly spread false claims about him.
“They told Burna Boy that I was sleeping with the girlfriend he brought to Ghana. He just believed it,” Shatta Wale alleged.
The Ghanaian artiste claimed the rumours were fabricated by former associates after they parted ways, saying they contacted influential people in his life in an attempt to damage his relationships.
Shatta Wale also revealed that after Burna Boy’s international success, he made several attempts to reconnect with the Nigerian singer but received no response.
He further claimed he reached out to Burna Boy’s mother and manager, Bose Ogulu, but was only given explanations as to why the Grammy-winning singer could not return his calls.
Despite the breakdown in their friendship, Shatta Wale said he remains happy for Burna Boy’s achievements on the global stage. However, he expressed disappointment that he never had the opportunity to clear the air and explain that the allegations were false.
Neither Burna Boy nor his management has publicly responded to Shatta Wale’s claims.
