Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has identified Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali as a player he would like to see at Stamford Bridge as the club prepares for life under incoming head coach Xabi Alonso.
Alonso is set to officially begin work on July 1 and is expected to oversee significant squad planning ahead of the new Premier League season.
With Chelsea already linked to several transfer targets, Di Matteo believes Tonali possesses the quality and experience to strengthen the Blues’ midfield options.

As a result, Di Matteo suggested that any move for Tonali could depend on departures within the squad.
